Tim and I have decided that we are going to start dating again. With all of the crazy travel, busy schedules and hard work, we’ve noticed that it’s time to make a change. We don’t want to make everything in our lives all about work (which is so easy to do when we run the business together!) so we’ve decided to cut out some time for each other when we don’t do anything related to work. We don’t have our phones, we don’t talk about work, we don’t talk about the kids or school. It’s a time for the two of us to reconnect and remind ourselves why we fell in love with each other in the first place.
We’ve committed to doing this twice a month and each time we go on a date, one of us is in charge of planning the date for the other. Tim planned the first date for us a couple weeks ago and it was so much fun! We went for a walk through the Halifax Public Gardens, then we went for dinner at a delicious new restaurant called Black Sheep (try it if you’re in the Halifax region!). After dinner, we walked down the street and got a chocolate treat to share. The simplicity of the evening was so special and it helped us remember that it’s not about all the fancy things that we can have, the most important thing in life is that we have each other and that we have our kids and can love strongly.
Going on this date with Tim made me feel young again and it gave me butterflies to hold his hand and walk down the streets of Halifax without having to think about checking my phone or make sure the kids were keeping up. It was just us and it was incredible.
Last week we had our second date night and this time, it was my turn to plan!! I decided that we were going to have a throwback date. We first went out for dinner at Turtleback restaurant and then went for a walk in Laurie park where we first met! We even ran into my friend Lori who had been with me on the day when I first met Tim! It was such a crazy coincidence and so great to see her again!! Date nights are so fun to plan and have something to look forward to together as a couple. We LOVE this new stage in our life where we focus on reconnecting and making time for each other.
Do you have someone that you’d like to reconnect with and spend some quality time with? I LOVE this idea and if everyone were to consider doing this with their significant other they would have a boost in their relationship, I am sure of it! I think this same idea can be used for any relationship. Maybe you have a parent or sibling you want to reconnect with. Taking time out of your busy schedule to make quality time happen with someone you care about is a perfect way to show them how much you care. No distractions, no work, just pure fun.
