Investing in My Community

This past Tuesday, I had the privilege of participating in a fundraiser called Models for Mental Health! We were doing a fashion show to raise money for a program in Halifax called Seeds of Success which brings support to people with mental health struggles. The program is part of Northwood community, a not-for-profit that helps seniors. Tim and I were sponsors for the event this week and it was so great to be a part of such an amazing cause.

At the event, I got to model a few beautiful dresses and it was so fun to be up on the runway. Here’s a few photos of me in some of the outfits for the evening!

I had a really amazing time at the event and I love what they are doing because so often mental health gets forgotten or overlooked.  We wanted to support this cause because mental health is something that more people are starting to talk about now, but it hasn’t always been recognized in the past. Tim and I believe really strongly in helping out with mental health awareness and this was one small way that we could give back to our community.

We even got a lot of help from some of our Monat team members who came to show their support for the cause! We had a booth to tell people about Monat and I was able to have some really meaningful conversations throughout the night.

Monat fam – always ready to support a great cause!

I got to help some of the other models get ready for their walks down the runway and teach them how to do a proper runway walk. Other Monat partners were helping with doing hair and makeup and other fun things. We had a blast together and I loved seeing other women who are passionate about mental health come together!

I think the things that the Seeds of Success program is doing are so important, because they are giving people the support and opportunities to learn how to live with mental health. It was special for me to be able to give back to a cause that I really feel so strongly about, especially with my own mental health journey. I know that having the proper support in place can make such a huge difference in people’s lives and their enjoyment of life. Mental health may never go away, but I know that you can make it more manageable.

A lot of people probably wouldn’t guess this about me because of my really outgoing and bubbly personality, but I have mental health struggles of my own. I deal with a lot of anxiety and sometimes it is just completely overwhelming. My anxiety is something that I’m learning to work with and although there are times when I have complete panic attacks and can hardly breathe, I still work hard towards overcoming the anxiety. My anxiety is a part of me but it isn’t going to stop me from succeeding.
